Reporter: So tell me, what made you change your personality during the trip to Malaysia Aunt Binh?
Aunt Binh: Well, when you think about it, I was really a burden. I can’t stay gloomy forever. So I decided to forget everything that has just happened and move on by helping my family.
Reporter: Wow! That’s so thoughtful of you. Now what are you going to do after you reach Malaysia?
Aunt Binh: I think the first thing I’m going to do after I reach Malaysia is take a shower. While in the boat, we can’t shower except drown ourselves in salty seawater. I’m going to take a long shower to wash off all of the fatigue in me. After that, I’ll help the family with the cooking, cleaning, and etc. until we find a new house. I’m thinking of finding a job for myself so that I can support my family too.
Reporter: So, who is the person who helped the most during the trip?
Aunt Binh: Of course it is Captain Cu. Without him, we would have been circling around the sea for days until we run out of food and fuel and drown. Thank goodness he was drunk the previous day or we would have never found him. I was surprised back then, and I shrieked because he looked so scary at the first time. But, if you get to know him he isn’t so bad at all.
Reporter: Do you have anywhere else you want to go other than Malaysia?
Aunt Binh: I think I like it better in Vietnam before there is a war. But, because of it all of us from the South have to move away if we don’t want to be under the communists rule.
Reporter: What will you do if you don’t get to Malaysia?
Aunt Binh: Oh… I’ve never really thought about it before. It’s just too terrifying to think about, us with no hope left to live in a new country. Perhaps I can join my husband and child faster that way. But, I should not think negatively while I still have a second chance at living. I’m sure my husband and child agrees too in heaven.
Reporter: Oh, I am sorry about your loss. I hope you will have a safe trip and find a new asylum. Thank you for your time.
Aunt Binh: You’re welcome.
